DAILY DIFFERENCE DEVOTION 04/28/2010

Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. (John 4:9 KJV)

BREAK THE NORM

The awesome thing about the Lord Jesus Christ is He breaks the normative.  He isn’t like every average Joe who desires to be like the next man.  No, Jesus Christ, our God, does the things we would not do.  He speaks to those cast away (Genesis 21:16-21, John 9:35).  He helps those begging Him for help (Matthew 20:29-34).  We see through out scripture, God Almighty does not act as the world would normally act.  You remember back in high school when the popular kid ignored someone of lesser popular status, many would follow and do the same.  We live in a culture where men do what they feel is right; which is propagated as a social norm.

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have to break the norms.  We have to go beyond the surface level of things.  Go deep, get personal, we must excel in areas which are not normal signs of loving-kindness that people do (like yesterday devotional: SPEAK).

In the text above we see the Samaritan woman immediately recognizes that Jesus Christ is doing something different; something out of the ordinary realm.  He’s talking with a hated person; a big no-no in the Jewish culture of the day.  So for today, when the homosexual is coming our way, will you break the norm?  When the rowdy neighborhood kids cross your lawn, will you yell at them like everyone else?  Or will you break the norm?  Will you find out if they are hungry and would desire something to eat? Let’s all be like the Lord Jesus: break the norm by living out your Christian walk in the sight of God (James 1:27).  Jesus Christ did and so should you.  God bless you my friends.
