DAILY DIFFERENCE DEVOTION 04/20/2010: Your First Love

DAILY DIFFERENCE DEVOTION 04/20/2010:

Your First Love

'But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 'Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent. (Revelation 2:4-5 NASB)

Do you remember how you used to love doing stuff as a younger person?  Maybe in your high school days you had a hobby you really excelled at.  You were fully devoted to it.  You spent all your money just to be involved in that activity.  Then, as other activities in life began take your interest; that hobby or devotion got pushed to the side.  You look back at it and see you haven’t really dedicated yourself to that thing but have given your devotion to other activities.  Don’t you desire to return to that old hobby?

The Lord Jesus Christ pointed out a similar problem with the church at Ephesus.  In verses 2-3, Jesus Christ complimented their devotion to spotting false men/apostles, their perseverance, and their endurance.  You think with that alone, shouldn’t the Lord Jesus Christ be pleased?  No, they had left (not lost) their first devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ: LOVE.

How much have you been fighting over the internet or with battling other Christians over silly matters?  Have you been holding onto your own purity so long, you have left loving a person who doesn’t see His truth like you?  Stop the debating, the bickering and wanting to leave everybody that doesn’t think like you.  Return to the first devotion you had to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Return to longing just for Jesus Christ and learning of His Word alone.  Yes, some of the things you hold to Christ is commending you for.  But, have you left your first love for Him?  Do you need to recall the devotion you once had for Jesus Christ?  Do you remember how you would tell the hard nose at your job about Jesus, no matter what the cost?  Return to the days when you prayed to the Lord Jesus Christ for Him to work in you when you had a difficult person to deal with.  Come on, let us return to the Lord Jesus and LOVE Him.
