DAILY DIFFERENCE DEVOTION 04/23/2010: DO

DAILY DIFFERENCE DEVOTION 04/23/2010:

DO

'But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 'Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent. (Revelation 2:4-5 NASB)

Are daily schedules are filled with many things to do.  Talking with my friend Carey, I remembered he said his family had been doing a lot lately. He laughed because he understood life is filled with things to do.  Many families like Carey's have also little to-do lists around their houses with things needed to be done.  They got to do laundry, they got to do the bills, they got to do sports thing with the kids; you know the drill. Basic point is: there is not one human being that doesn't have something to do on this planet. Even a baby has something to do.  Eat, sleep and cry all night lol.

The final admonition by the Lord Jesus, after telling the Ephesians to remember and repent, is to apply this third verb: DO.  He tells them to do the deeds they once did before.  Poieō ποι
ω is the transliteration of the Greek for DO.  It can mean the following: to make, that is to say to form, produce, spoken of an external act as manifested in the production of something tangible, completed action; also, to do, expressing an action as continued or not yet completed; what one does repeatedly, continually.  Poieō is also a verb used in the Aorist Active Imperative; which basically Jesus is giving a command to do something without regard to its duration, but the focus on the action of doing as whole.  The important thing is the Ephesians do the deeds which displayed their love devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Now, how does this apply to us today?  Well after remembering, and repenting, we must rely on Jesus Christ to do (John 15:5).  Do that which is pleasing to Him.  Do that which shows that you love Him.  Be devoted to Him.  Stay in the lane and continue to endure with the work of loving the Lord Jesus Christ.  What did He tell us in Matthew 22:37-39?  That is exactly what we need to be doing as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.  In the OT, this application points to the Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4-7).  Loving the Lord Jesus are the deeds we must do.  So, lets do it!
