We travel many roads in our Christian walk: a walk truly after the Lord Jesus Christ. One of the thing that has stuck with me is: God is not dead. What I mean is, the emotional, miracle working, real in-your-face God has never died, and never will. See, when coming to the reformed theology, I quickly wanted to put aside all the miracles and wondrous works that Jesus Christ had done(NOTICE I said JESUS, not a human work). I became cessasionalist in my view, but God’s Spirit would not have me to deny all the miracles He did.
See, the more reformed I became (whatever that means), I attempted to put away all that had happened in my past. I had seen and experienced heavily the false, and thought the true God does not operate in men's lives anymore. I had forgotten, the scriptures which I exegete, those things do take place in real life. (Are you Calvinist beginning to get upset and want to argue certain gifts and the prophetic?) Look, let us not get so much head knowledge in Calvinism and forget that Christ Jesus is not real! Now hold on as I testify of God’s miraculous work in my experiences below. These events prove alone, that the Jesus Christ of the bible is working His power today:
There was a woman named Mabel from my former church (Mabel is now deceased) who was sick and on an air machine. One day while worshipping the Lord, God impressed on my mind that He would heal Mabel. I thought nothing else about it, I just told my wife and went on about my business. See, Mabel use to come into church service every week being wheeled up in a wheelchair. I watched this woman have her daughter help her carry that heavy air machine into her seat every service. Then one year later, Mabel walked into the church service by herself and sat down. No air machine, no cane, no wheel chair, no daughter helping her, only carrying her bible in her arm. Whaattttt???? Yeah God had healed her. A couple services later she testified about it and nobody in the church said anything. They looked amazed and in awe of God’s work. I was praising God and filled with so much joy. One day while talking with the youth of the church, they recalled how God had healed Mabel. They could not deny that God had done that. Mabel never carried that machine again, even until the day of her death. Wow, glory be to God.
But it doesn’t stop there. My son Elijah, had a infection in his eye. His eye became swelled up, and looked like someone had punched him in the eye. The doctor had told us that the swelling would last about a year. The next night my wife, Shannon, went and prayed to Jesus Christ. “Lord, if it be your will, heal Elijah’s eye, and I will testify of Your glory!” I kid you not, the next morning we woke up and Elijah’s eye was back to normal. No swelling or anything. Shannon began to praise the Lord and told everybody what God had done. Now, when her father (who’s not a Christian) came around he asked what happened to Elijah’s eye, Shannon quickly testified of Christ’s work. He rejected it and walked off angry. Glory be to God
Okay two things happened like that, Karsten, I still believe Christ don’t work like that. It’s got to be according to scripture bro! I agree, so let’s continue on. One night my son Isaiah was possessed with a demon. He woke me up in the middle of the night by all this screaming and hollering. We allow Isaiah to watch the shows like Diego and Dora before his bedtime. Now psychologist will say not to do this because it causes the child to have night terrors. But this was no night terror. I went into the room and my son began screaming and hollering at me. I grabbed the bible to read a verse of scripture and the demon yelled at me “ Nooooooooooo, don’t you. Noooo, get that away from meee!”. I responded “who are you?” The demon said “I am Dora”. My son began lashing out and I prayed to Jesus Christ to remove the devil from my son. Immediately my son calmed down and he has not had an episode like that again. We now pray to Jesus and read scripture before bedtime, glory be to God.
Still don’t believe? It’s not biblical right? The gifts have ceased huh? Let’s see, there was a young girl by the name of Emily who was possessed by a demon. Shannon used to watch her in her childcare. I had just finished coming out of bible study one day when I get a call from Shannon, who was in panic. She had visited our neighbor’s house (who is a Christian) with her children, and Emily began to go into a demonic fit. I heard screaming in the background and my wife was asking me what they should do. I told her what the scripture said and said that only Christ Jesus can remove that demon. Jesus Christ impressed on my mind to have them pray to Him and then remove the girl from the house. I hung up. Later my wife called me back and said the demon began to growl at them, and my neighbor spoke the Word of God and the demon left. Whattttt???? Shannon left the house and Emily was fine the rest of the day. Actually, Emily had no episodes after that, even up to the day she left the childcare. Wow, glory to the Lord Jesus Christ!
Karsten, this stuff is not real. God don’t impress things on people’s mind really. He don’t, you have not provided one scripture that He does. Okay:
Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, (Acts 16:6)
I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, (Romans 9:1)
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:1-2)
Okay now question. Why does my mind need to be renewed? When I read scripture, where do I hear at? The what? Come on, say it! The mind. Now let me continue on. One day, I overheard Tony (a Christian co-worker of mine), listening to some Gospel music in his cubicle. I thought, man Tony is over there jammin’. God impressed on my mind to go and speak with Tony. I got up immediately, and went over to Tony’s desk. To my awe, Tony was worshipping God, crying and weeping. He looked up and me and said “God is dealing with my sin brother, I got to get right, God is dealing with my sin brother”. I went with him and prayed with him, holding him, and saying it’s going to be alright brother. We prayed and I went back to my desk. Later Tony called me over and said, “as I was crying, I was writing you a letter to pray for me, and then you just showed up asking what was going on?” He showed me the letter and I just praised the Lord Jesus Christ. Later I shared some scripture verses with him, and he thank God for sending me to him. Glory be to the Lord Jesus Christ!
These things don’t happen. Charles Spurgeon, John Calvin, George Whitefield, they didn’t speak of things like this did they. I mean we quote them so much, they obviously had to experience Christ Word working in their lives right? A true Christian does, and they cannot deny His power. I am not finished yet. A co-worker of mine, Tim, was dealing with some financial issues. I overheard him talking about it, and I prayed that the Lord would allow me to help him. Friday before I left from work, Jesus Christ spoke to my mind saying to help him out. I ignored his call, and just went home. Over the weekend I repented and ask God to allow me a chance to help Tim. Tim came in Monday asking me to help him financially, but he was very nervous! I went to the bank, got the money and handed it to Tim. I told him, don’t pay me back. Two days later Tim came to my desk and told me something I praise God for. He said over the weekend he had a dream and in it something told him to ask my family to help him out with a gift. He said the voice told him, I would help him. So it shocked him when I said yes to his asking! He asked me what is the dream about. I told him about the Lord Jesus Christ of the bible. Glory be to the Lord God Almighty.
So as you think on and exegete scripture don’t think God does not work. Yes I know the Pentacostals, Charismatics, and the like overdue it, but don’t deny it my friends. His power is still alive and well today. The Holy Ghost still lives in the believers. His doing these things are not pulling men away from the scripture, Christ is pulling men towards the scripture. With all the theological debating about gifts, Calvinism loving, and exposing the scriptures we are doing, what are you going to do with it when out in the battlefield? Are you going to explain your four/five points when a demon-possessed man is rolling on the floor screaming and people are asking you, the Christian, for help? Are you going to quote Whitefield at that time? I think not, your going to allow the Holy Spirit within you (which is in every believer) to do His work. The Word of God, the living epistle is going to do His working within you (Philippains 2:13). Don’t allow your theological knowledge to kill your thoughts and beliefs about the real Lord Jesus Christ. When in trouble, you pray for Him to work a miracle? So, why don’t you believe miralces exist anymore? Jesus Christ is risen from the dead. His power still exist, He is not dead! Now if you want to argue with me over tongues and other gifts, you just missed the whole point of this!
For the gifts and calling of God [are] without repentance. For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable [are] his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, [are] all things: to whom [be] glory for ever. Amen. (Romans 11:29-36)
See, the more reformed I became (whatever that means), I attempted to put away all that had happened in my past.
