Gospel Rap is sometimes the target of assault by some professing Christians. Some say that the mannerisms and actions of Gospel rap artist are like that of the worlds. Funny thing is that the style of Christian music they may listen to, the some of their artist are worldly. I've found that some of the so-called Gospel music out here is more 'me' focused than Christ centered Gospel rap. Let's take a look and see which one follows the scripture more:
TRUTH by Lecrae
I AM HEALED
Now listening to that, who's was more Jesus Christ focused? Donald Lawrence said "I am healed", Lecrae rapped about God's Truth: Jesus Christ. So is Gospel rap demonic? Hmmmmmmm
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Jude 21-23

Checked both videos out and must say that the second didn't even mention God, only a me type of a song and what I can get out of God song. Sad to say that we've even sung the second song in our sanctuary more than once.
ReplyDeleteI really pride myself on what I hear, when it comes to preaching. But something never set well with that song as well as alot of others that they sing.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention! We must do better. I think this is a direct reflection of why this country is experiencing the troubles of this time, because even when we come together in church it's to empower ourselves to pamper ourselves.
That rapper would probably run circles around alot of ministers, that call themselves preachers.
We must be more aware with our ears open at all times.
Praise God, with all the things that we hear and do, we must watch and be sober. Thanks for the comment. May God continue to grace our eyes and hears to see the truth in all things we encounter. May His grace be with you.

Much of what is called gospel music today lacks one key ingredient...the gospel!
ReplyDeleteSome say that hip hop shouldn't used for God's glory. They actually say that it can't be used for that purpose because of its origins being worldly. That is what we call a genetic fallacy. Just because something started out as a sinful expression doesn't mean that God cannot redeem those within the culture and use them to bring glory to His name.
The same could be said about Christmas and Easter, but I don't see as many of these same church folks up in arms about the pagan beginnings of those two nationally celebrated holidays. It's true that they both have pagan roots, but does that mean that they are not redeemable? No, that's another genetic fallacy.
I praise God for brothers like LeCrae, shai linne, and others. They are committed to both living AND preaching the Scriptures through their music and are also very much committed to making disciples.

ReplyDeletePraise God you hit it right on point. I love our worship at Hope because the words come straight out of the scripture. I really like Lecrae's style of how he brings the Word into his lyrics. Truly a gift bro.
What is happening to those professing Jesus this day..well I'll speak more about this later in another post hopefully. Thanks for the comments bro. The grace of Jesus Christ be with you.
Good stuff.. and I agree completely..
ReplyDeleteThere is a diff. take going on over here though :(

I posted this article on here. I always want to hear the opinions of others and biblically examine my stance on things. Thanks for the link Blendah!
