"REAL RELIGION: Following The Examples part 1"

The bible is filled with many examples from men of God to women of God, events and other happenings to even sinners which all serve as examples to us, the Christian (Romans 15:4)  These examples can be seen as a vital instruments in aiding us with our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.  They can encourage us, lead us away from sin, warn us and help us to evaluate our own Christian life.  This week, hopefully, we will have devotions dealing with examples.  To begin we must recognize the most important example: THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

 

Χριστός Christos is transliterated meaning the anointed and Messiah, the Son of God in which He is the head of His church (Ephesians 5:23).  As the head, He is our first and highest example we are to look to as believers.  Daniel similarly did this with our Sovereign LORD in Daniel 2:20 when giving honor to the Lord for revealing the dream of Nebuchadnezzar and its interpretation.  God had set this example of dream interpretation before with Joseph in Genesis 41:15-16.  Now, Jesus Christ our God is our example in this age and we should follow Him; looking at the things written He has done.  We should even follow Christ guided examples given to His disciples as well (John 13:14-15, 1^st Peter 2:21).  We must note that power of Χριστός Christos as an example is He molds the believer into His likeness.  Lets look at some of these texts below:

And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit [is] life because of righteousness. (Romans 8:10)

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)

 

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, (Ephesians 3:14-17)

This is what makes our example important to look to first.  What example in life do you know that lives within His followers shaping and molding them? We should marvel at how the Lord Jesus Christ, when sometimes interacting with certain men, He said, "to FOLLOW HIM."  Why?  He is the perfect example to follow:

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. (Matthew 4:19)

But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead. (Matthew 8:22)

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. (Mark 10:21)

And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me. (Luke 5:27)

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: (John 10:27)

In the last text listed above, Jesus Christ proclaims that as an example through His voice, His sheep will follow Him.  Are you following the main Example?  Are you looking to Jesus Christ first?  Or is your first objective to look within yourself?  The main example is Christ; follow Him!!!!!

 

 

DAILY DIFFERENCE DEVOTION 06/22/2010

"But as for you, son of man, your fellow citizens who talk about you by the walls and in the doorways of the houses, speak to one another, each to his brother, saying, 'Come now and hear what the  message is which comes forth from the LORD.' "They come to you as people come, and sit before you as My people and hear your words, but they do not do them, for they do the lustful desires expressed by their mouth, and their heart goes after their gain. (EZEKIEL 33:30-31 NASB)

“DESTRUCTIVE RELIGION!”

Religion is a word which can be a blessing to some and a curse to others.  Christianity is true religion, and Professor James gives a well defined definition of what visible Christianity is in James 1:27.  I highly disagree with the no-religion campaigners going around spreading the message of “Christianity with no religion”.   Quite frankly, every human being is religious.  So I must define what I mean when I make the statement, ‘religion is hurting people’.

The religion I speak of is described by James in James 1:22-26.  This is a destructive religion; a religion which has swept across America and destroyed the hearts of many for years.  It has infected Blacks, Hispanics, Whites, Asians, and all races within America and beyond.  It grips people through mindless ritual and sucks them completely dry.  Some of the wickedest unbelievers are those who sit up in a so-called church.  They can be more hurtful than a Muslim extremist wanting to cut the head off of a Christian.  What? Yes because this religion seeks not to just destroy your physical, but your mental, and emotional aspects of your life.  This religion will stab you in your back while smiling right in your face.  Matthew 23 tends to be the common text many use to define these religious actions.  But let’s look at another text which gives us a clear understanding as well.  Let’s not use the Pharisees as the easy target as well; let’s look at something else.  Let’s examine man in general; who disobeys the Lord’s Word! Uh-oh Karsten, that includes you and me; and all our Christian heroes out there.  Yes, that’s how destructive this religion can manifest itself.  But the focus of this destruction is: NOT DOING WHAT THE WORD GOD HAS COMMANDED.  Now let’s look at Peter.

But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision. And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation. But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before [them] all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews? (Galatians 2:11-14)

Peter had disobeyed the very thing God had told him before about (Acts 10).  Because of this disobedience, other Jews and Barnabas were carried away with this foolishness.  People were getting hurt by a blameful act of Peter, an Apostle.  Well what was the sin that they disobeyed God and hurt others? It was Hypocrisy.  Hypokrisis is the transliteration which means the acting of a stage player, dissimulation, or hypocrisy.  Here’s what Vines Expository says: Peter with other believing Jews, in separating from believing Gentiles at Antioch, pretended that the motive was loyalty to the Law of Moses, whereas really it was fear of the Judaizers.  The same is true of this destructive religion today.

As Christians, how is this destructive religion overcome by Jesus Christ?  OBEDIENCE to the Word of God is most important (John 15:10).  Depending on the situation, let the wisdom of God in the scriptures guide you.  Paul, confronted them in verse 14, because the context called for him to (Titus 1:9-16).  Sometimes religion like this must be marked because of the division it produces (Romans 16:17-18).  In other instances it must be departed from, because it is a general mixing or true worship with false worship (2 Corinthians 6:11-18).  For example, you don’t stay in Joel Osteen’s church trying to rebuke those who are in error.  My goodness that is thousands of people going the wrong way; no you get out of that arena. 

The point is destructive religion is destructive.  In good churches, or in so-called churches; it is destroying men and women.  It must be confronted by the Christian when made known to him and avoided by the Christian in his daily walk with Jesus Christ.  I will leave you with an example my pastor friend told me of his former pastor. 

He knew an individual, who was homosexual, and invited him to his church.  The homosexual stated about how churches can be in loving towards him, but was encouraged to come because this church was different.  Well, the pastor of the church saw this homosexual sitting in the congregation and immediately changed his entire message into a message against homosexuality.  The individual stated later “I will never step foot in a church again!”

Now, from the example if we say the individual was being convicted by God’s Word, we’ve missed the point.  The pastor changed the message based on wrong outward judgment. Then the pastor disobeyed the Lord by giving a message not given to him by God.  Hopefully we can you see how destructive religion brought ruin.  That is why we must obey God and keep ourselves from destructive religion.  God bless.

I have set the LORD always before me: because [he is] at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.  For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore. (PSALMS 16:8-11 KJV)

“SPENDING TIME WITH CHRIST IN JOY”

What is my favorite TV show to watch: “Top Chef”.  I cannot wait until this evening when the new season of Top Chef takes place near my home location around Washington DC.  The best part about watching Top Chef is spending time with my wife.  At that time both of us are able to share our ideas and opinions on the show and with each other on food etc.  I have enjoyed each year spending with my wife watching Top Chef.  In fact, honey, if you read this blog today, get ready because this year I am going to be right about picking the winner again.  It never gets boring or ritualistic in watching Top Chef with my wife.

Are we just as joyful about our time with the Lord Jesus Christ?  Are you ever joyful praying to God?  Are you ever joyous when the Word of God is read either to you or by your own eyes?  Do you rejoice when spending time with the Lord?  Many times we can get caught up in doing things religiously; as if spending time with God is another ritual part of our day.  We almost become like those of Isaiah 29:13.

Wanting to stay away from the dangers dead religious ritual, how can we have joy in our time with the Lord?  From the Psalm 16 text we can draw out some of things:

- Put the Lord before you (Psalm 27:1)
- Rest in Hope (Acts 2:26)
- Trust that He will judge righteously and keep you (1 Chronicles 16:33, Jude 1:24)
- Know that Jesus Christ is with you (Matthew 28:20, Jeremiah 1:8, Hebrews 13:5-6)
- Know that God will lead you and guide you (Psalm 23, Proverbs 3:5-6)
- Know all riches of His life are in Him (Ephesians 1:3-14, 3:16, Philippians 4:19,
  2 Peter 1:5-11)

Doing some of these things will help us enjoy our time and presence with the Lord.  Let’s enjoy seeking after our God.  Let us seek Him diligently (Hebrews 11:6), and be joyful in the times we spend with Him.  God bless

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.. (HEBREWS 12:1-2 ESV)

“CHRIST FOCUSED CHRISTIANITY”

One of the things which drives me crazy sometimes is when I am watching the Price Is Right.  This show has been out for years, yet people constantly appear on there doing the same thing.  What same thing is that Karsten?  Every time I’ve have seen the show, when a contestant is asked to make a bid or they are inquired about the price of an item; what happens?  The person turns around and looks into a screaming audience of people yelling out things that seem to be confusing.  In fact, have you ever thought, “stop looking at those people and make a decision!”  Someone did suggest to me the contestants may be struggling and need some help.  True indeed, yet how can you really trust a person in a crowd of people shouting different things?  They could be saying anything to you. You really have no idea whether they want you to mess up because they didn’t get called or whether they really have your best interest at all. Why?  Man is fallible.  Man is not to be fully trusted.

We do the same thing when it comes to our Christianity.  We compare and contrast our life with others lives and give ourselves an evaluation of whether we are in or out.  We trust in people or our no good flesh to give us an honest evaluation of our Christian walk.  This is foolish, yet we do it.  For example; I used scripture at times to justify my foolishness.  I will say “examine yourself, examine yourself, to see whether I am in the faith!(2 Corinthians 13:5)”  I quickly trust in myself, my own flesh for an honest evaluation that I am or am not a Christian.  If I understood the context of that text, I wouldn’t be so quick to trust my flesh for that examination. 

It is true; we should examine our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.  We should seriously see if we are walking right with Christ.  The question is who determines our faith and who should we look to for that examination?  Many times we look to flesh, either ourselves or the lives of others.  Let’s be honest as to why this is foolish.  Look at this:

The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh [is] grass, and all the goodliness thereof [is] as the flower of the field: (Isaiah 40:6)

The heart [is] deceitful above all [things], and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9)

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but [how] to perform that which is good I find not. (Romans 7:18)

God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. (Romans 3:4)

For all flesh [is] as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:  (1 Peter 1:24)

I cannot trust in anyway for my flesh to give me an honest evaluation of myself in Christ.  I cannot even say I am saved or not saved; living right or not living right; my flesh is a liar.  I cannot trust in anyone else to evaluate my life in Jesus Christ.  I cannot even trust a testimony of someone who is saying they doubted being a Christian for 20 years and then Christ saved them.  What?  Why?  They are flesh, and flesh cannot be trusted.  Some people have the best of intentions giving their testimonies, yet they only lead people on a guilt trip.  Look, we testify of the work of Jesus Christ; we are to look to the LORD JESUS CHRIST alone for salvation.  Not to anything we have done in our lifetime.  Christ alone is the only One we should look to for an honest evaluation self.  Let the scriptures speak of what you are or not (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Now let’s look at Acts 8:

And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,  Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to [him], and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.  The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on [their] way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, [here is] water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. (Acts 8:27-37)

Here in this text, the eunuch was reading the scriptures.  He didn’t understand what the text was saying, and Philip pointed him to himself right?  Philip said examine yourself, see if you’re a sinner right? Philip pointed him to look inside his heart and see his need for God right?  No, Philip pointed him to the Lord Jesus Christ.  He pointed the eunuch to the One who is true and faithful; JESUS CHRIST (Revelation 19:11).  Remember, Jesus Christ has said He is the way (John 14:6).  Jesus Christ our Lord said He was the light (John 8:12).  Jesus Christ our Lord said He was the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25). Our conversation in Christ is not depended upon ourselves in any manner; our salvation and trust solely depends on Jesus Christ (Proverbs 3:5-6, Acts 4:12).

We must stop looking to men to affirm us.  We must stop looking at our flesh to define our Christianity.  We must look to Jesus Christ, He is our hope.  With urgency look to the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ alone.  My friends; please trust in Christ alone!!!  Our Christianity is not based on man or flesh, it is from Jesus Christ the Lord.

DAILY DIFFERENCE DEVOTION 06/10/2010

When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, "The gods have come down to us in human form!" …. "Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them. (ACTS 14:8-18 NIV)

“Idolize not the good pastor”

We can easily distinguish how WoF (Word of Faith) followers and seeker-sensitive participants idolize their pastors.  It is so plain to see that they put leaders on a pedestal; almost worshipping the ground they walk on.  I remember reading about a man they call Sweet Daddy Grace. He claimed to intercede as savior for his people; and many still believe he is even though the man is dead.  A whole religion headed to hell because of the idolatry of a man.  Idolizing men is dangerous; truly truly dangerous.

The problem is we may sometimes formulate in our minds that idolatry happens with only false teachers/preachers and their followers.  Truth is, it can happen amonst a good group of teachers as well.  I have done this with guys that are sound in their teaching and living; and I would ignore that it is the Lord Jesus Christ working within him.  Many times through my flattery and nice compliments, I was executing my form of idolatry to them.  What do we do so we don’t idolize anyone?  Quickly, I answer with Matthew 22:37 and Deuteronomy 6:5; love God 1^st.  Listen to this:

Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. (1 John 5:21)

It doesn’t state anything about false teachers, only it states only ‘keep yourself from idols’.  This is an admonishment to Christians.  Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ must not place anything above the God they worship (John 4:23-24). A good pastor is not to be exalted; idolize him not.  We must obey the LORD JESUS of the Scriptures.  No matter how great a preacher sounds, they are not greater than the Lord Jesus Christ!  Amen.

The Grim Reaper Cometh

I decided to take this video down after hearing a good friend of mine explain some things I did not see in the video when I watched it first. I posted the video to get Christians to think about the urgency of loving the lost. But my friend pointed out that scare tactics is not wise in sharing Jesus Christ with people.

I confess at times I rush at place videos up, I thank my friend for speaking on this issue on his website. I do not support scare tactics, I am against that fully. I must realizes sometimes my audience may not see what I think they will see. God bless you and stay into God's Word. Love you guys.

DAILY DIFFERENCE DEVOTION 06/09/2010

While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God." (ACTS 5:4 NKJV)

“A little lie will hurt: Lies offend God”

Growing up, I was a liar.  On occasion, I would fabricate a story or two so I could fit in with my peers.  One fabrication happened when I was 16.  I lied to a group of my peers about my virginity; thinking they would never figure out I was lying.  I thought it would hurt nobody.  Honestly, there was One who was offended. 

These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him:  A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,  An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. (Proverbs 6:16-19)

 The Lord hates a lying tongue; a mouth that spits out untruths.  The Hebrew word Sheqer denotes lying to mean lie, lying, an untruth, deception, disappointment, falsehood.  A fabricated story in other words is a falsehood that the Lord is not pleased with.  What we think would not hurt anybody; is offensive to the Lord.  We must understand the Lord God hates sin.  Any form of it is offensive to Him. It separates us from sweet prayer and fellowship with our God (Isaiah 59:2-3).

To apply this, we must lay aside all lying. We must allow the Holy Spirit to lead us to tell the truth that comes from God’s Word.  We should speak truth to everybody; don’t fabricate stories thinking they will not hurt anybody.  Instead, tell the truth, than no one will be deceived or misled.  God bless my beloved.

DAILY DIFFERENCE DEVOTION 06/08/2010

But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." (GENESIS 3:4-5 ESV)

“THINK BIBLICALLY 4: Never fall into synthesis”


Compromise has destroyed many; in times past it has doe this, and will destroy many in times to come.  Those opposed to the Word of God will always seek to provoke you to believe what they believe.  How? They attempt to reason with you, in order that you fall into synthesis.  Synthesis is the point to which antithesis and thesis resolves their conflict.  In other words, antithesis tries to manipulate thesis to meet on a ground each can agree on.  Basically, this is compromise, when applying the term to today’s biblical thinker.  The goal of the antithesis, which is against the Word of God, is to bring your thinking to a level of compromise by reasoning. Agree with antithesis and there is no room for conflict.

Now, let’s look at the Word of God. In 1^st Kings 11:1-8, we see Solomon give in to allowing idolatry and political peace with foreign nations because he compromised on God’s Word.  His thesis was God’s Word (v2).  The antithesis was the wives who led him to go after other gods (v3).  The synthesis happens in verses 3-8.  Why did Solomon go to synthesis?  We must look at verse 1.

The key to not compromising is standing on that which you know is true; the Word of God (Psalm 119:11).  Had Solomon stuck to what the Lord had said (Exodus 34:12-17), he would not have given in to synthesis.  Antithesis attacks our flesh, which was the appeal of his enemy in 1^st Kings 11:1.  Opposition will go against the truth of God by appealing to your flesh to lead you away into compromise.  Never allow such a thing.  Even in good apologetic discussion, don’t depart from the context.  Hold fast to your faith in confidence of the Lord Jesus Christ. Stand on Christ, fall not into synthesis. God bless my beloved.

DAILY DIFFERENCE DEVOTION 06/07/2010

“FOR GOD’S GLORY”

Recently, our van, with all my children’s car seats, was stolen right in front of my house.  I remember the morning I woke up and went to the door to see an empty car space.  I actually laughed because somebody was that brave to steal something in front of my home.  If that wasn’t enough, about two weeks later I was involved in an accident right in front of my house again. I guess then it was time to freak out.  No, patience and the thought of glorifying God flooded my mind.  Besides, the lady that hit me was freaking out and I had on a shirt with Romans 5:8 written on it; what would that have looked like if I flipped out?  Finally, I found a used van selling at a dealership that is an 1hour from my home.  I went with my wife to look at the car and it was junked up, yet they were offering a good price for it.  I decided not to take it at that moment and then changed my mind on the drive back home.  The next day, I called the sales person, leaving a message that I was coming to get the car.  I spoke again with the sales agent, who told me by mistake that the car was being purchased.  When I found this wasn’t true, I began heading up to Bethesda, Md.  Going to Bethesda, we sat in an hour of traffic; this was really beginning to test my patience lol.  I was challenged on the way God has me to raise my children, and to top off the day, I spent 7 hours waiting for the van to be given to me.  Not once did I loose my cool because of one thing: Glorifying the Lord within my living.

Do you make excuse for sin in your life? Do you say its okay for Christians to loose their cool etc? It is not okay because of Christ we are glorifying.  Don’t take your sin lightly or brush it off as a small thing.  Your life in Jesus Christ is to glorify Him, not your own self.  I have said to myself, “you’ve got to be real Karsten”; but being real is letting the Lord be glorified in every aspect of your life. Let the Word of God speak to you here:

Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel. (Psalms 22:23)

I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. (Psalms 86:12) 

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. (Acts 19:17)

And that the Gentiles might glorify God for [his] mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people. And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust. (Romans 15:9-12)

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:  Even as I please all [men] in all [things], not seeking mine own profit, but the [profit] of many, that they may be saved. (1 Corinthians 10:31-33)

Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of [this] calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of [his] goodness, and the work of faith with power:  That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12)

Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by [your] good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.  (1 Peter 2:12)

If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy [are ye]; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or [as] a thief, or [as] an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if [any man suffer] as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. (1 Peter 4:14-16)
